Over at the SEND Network, Bruce Ashford, Provost and Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Southeastern, recently published an article on God’s Mission and The Incarnation of His Son. It’s well worth pointing out to you (and not just because he’s the Provost) since we are fast approaching Christmas.
Here’s an excerpt:
Through Jesus, God signaled the launching of his plan to redeem worshipers from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation, and his intention to resurrect the universe. Jesus undertook his ministry with both words and deeds. Through his words, he taught the need to be saved (John 3). Through his miracles, he taught that he was God and that the salvation he would bring would eventually overcome all forms of evil and pain. When he was crucified, he paid for the sins of we who are sinners, and with his resurrection, he sealed that sin payment forever. He also launched the great salvation which will eventually resurrect not only the bodies of believers but also this universe in which believers will live with him eternally.
