Biblical and Practical Thoughts on Parenting: Introducing a New Series

One of the great blessings of life for most of us is that of being a parent– a dad or a mom. Some of us even have the joyful experience of being grandparents! We all know that being good, godly parents is a challenge. It is hard work. But, it is rewarding work.

Over the years, I have collected and put together some materials that I found helpful, and so I thought I would pass them on through a new series here at Between the Times. Some will be simply outlines. Others will be playful articles, and still others some helpful guidelines and principles that I hope you may find useful.

On many occasions, I have been asked about my “parental philosophy.” I am basically a very simply person, so you should not be surprised that my thoughts on parenting are the same. It boils down to two propositions: 1. Teach your children about Jesus, and 2. Have fun with them.

You say, “That’s it?” Yep, that’s it. Growing out of that, I did tell our four sons that if they would grow up to love and serve Jesus, I did not care what they did. So, in the days ahead, let’s think together and have some fun together. I am no expert! Just a fellow pilgrim flying by the seat of my pants asking for a lot of God’s grace, doing the best I know how.

This series will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We’ll start next Tuesday with what it looks like when Christ is Lord of the home. I look forward to sharing and interacting in the days ahead.

Thanks Dr. Akin, I’m really looking forward to this series!

After meeting one of your sons this past year, and hearing about the other three, they are a testimony to the grace of Christ in your raising of them.
